The match would be even if both were playing at their best. However, Gukesh's form has plummeted since he won the title. Take a look at his results this year in each rating period:

His 2026 results against ≥2700 players is +10=25-2 i.e. +8. He has the best performance of anyone this year against the elite and as long as he plays to his strength he should win the title.

Gukesh is already the World Champion, but that does not mean he can't be defeated. I won't bet any money on this. I don't gamble anyway...however, I believe Sindarov has a good chance. We will see...

At the moment, Sindarov seemed to be playing better chess than Gukesh, so I won't be surprised if Sindarov becomes the World Champion this year. My prediction: Sindarov 8-6 Gukesh.
