Hi! I live in Malaysia that have many religious beliefs, and one is the Buddha - and some of my friends that play chess is also Buddha. I'm not a Buddhist, but I think that Buddha isn't hated chess.

Maybe he wasn't a very good player?

I spit on religious hypocrisy and bigotry in any context

That's very interesting, I was always under the impression that people who can play blindfold chess against multiple people at the same time and win every game have at least opened their inner eye in a very practical way ;)

It's possible.
Maybe the Buddha usually lose on chess, so he told his disciples to avoid it at all costs.

The Buddha knew that Chess was a purposeless activity that harmed the mind and caused suffering. See #1 on the list:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_that_Buddha_would_not_play
Buddha taught his disciples that playing Chess was like mocking a deformed person (#16 on the list).
If you play Chess, Why do you hate the Buddha?
I don't think you'll find Buddhist monk here around to have a good answer

There are ball games on the list too. I think they are much more harmful than chess.

Budhha isnt known as a competitive type. Hes mostly known as a gentle being. Oh plus games like monopoly can cause two best friends to fight each other. So I could see why the Buddha wouldnt want us playing board games.

The I couldn't care less what some dumb pagan philosopher thought of chess.
Chess has historically been accepted by the Christian faith so I see that as being a better guideline then "The Buddha"
