I recently found the reddit post linked below and it seems to me almost nobody is trying the bots out. Wonder what their real strength is after the owner tuned the algo a few months back.

A cool idea indeed leading to much more challenging opponents, especially in the conversion phase.
From what I was able to feel out myself and looking at some previous games, the last 2 levels are definitely stronger than maia3_2600. ( @maia3-79m_2600 )
The advanced level @chessfishio-advanced is probably somewhere in the middle of maia3_2400 and 2600.
The first 3 levels are going to be the ones suitable for the vast majority of people, somewhat comparable to maia3 levels between 1400 and 2200.
Hope it helps.

I attempted to play a few corr. games against the "master" level bot. My rating...

Good job y'all. It seems the random maia blunders may have been curbed quite significantly across higher levels.
Too stronk? Take it or leave it :P

Thanks for digging this up @gotwic. You piqued my interest enoughh to play some chess again and to sample Maia 3 for the first time -> kudos to @SpaghetiMonstr
I did some sleuthing to find out why these hybrid bots had not been featured on the lichess bots community page and my theory is this [do forgive my oversuspicious mind if I'm wrong]:
It turns out the chessfishio part comes from the chessfish.io chess analysis website clearly run by the same person maintaining the bots (it marries maia and stockfish in exactly the same way) so it may have been frowned upon as some sort of slick promotion trick.
Hooray!

Woah I had no idea was pretty sure it was about input-output between the two engines LOL
Personally, me no get the point of that website but hey it's one of the most sophisticated looking chess sites I've ever seen.
Nice to know but irrelevant. Thx for the effort though ;P

No need ti get testy, others had similar headscratching moments about the website:
https://lichess.org/forum/general-chess-discussion/i-made-a-chess-website-that-lets-you-analyze-every-move-not-just-the-best-ones#q09HDIFf
Even if slightly offtopic it's the same person who made these bots. If he ever returns we might be able to ask him to soften up the higher end bots a bit.

chessfish.io
Hmm interesting The site is playable and the amount of blunder-checking that goes into maia can be configured manually. Nice design btw

Thx to @StevenEmily for actually playing some games against advanced.
Constantly going on about a site outside of lichess was getting stale. Sanity restored! :D

Alright alright my bad - back to the chess.
A few days back I managed to beat @maia3-79m_2600 once and draw it a few times in 20 games. I don't think I was close to anything even close to that against expert or master chessfishio levels. (no stupid blunders in completely winning positions duh!)
Advanced however definitely feels doable ; @magatailor was eerily right about the relative strengths of these bots
