This is the only website where I notice any connection issues, can anyone explain what is likely going on, and give me any further possible troubleshooting steps?

Theory: your connection to the Lichess servers in France is terrible.
Unlike other websites, Lichess isn't hidden behind "Cloudflare," which would require you to connect to an internal network to redirect directly to the server.

Over at least the past few weeks, it seems VERY frequent that when I go to use Lichess, for something as simple as (1) going into a study, or (2) a puzzle streak or (3) even just submitting this forum post. Within a few minutes the website will time out for me.

I confirmed it doesn't seem to be a server wide problem. I've tried ipconfig /release, ipconfig /renew, ipconfig /flushdns. I've tried de...

Ummm. Try this this will help

Ah, I didn't realize there was a page on Lichess to swap between "Direct Routing" and "CDN routing".
Edit: Sadly it seems to either be much worse, or just as bad for me. :/

Seems like a reasonable theory, but then I still wonder why it has become a VERY notable issue in like the past couple months, while it seemed very stable for years before then?

Hmm its working much more stable at the moment finally, maybe it's been mostly heavy traffic at certain times, or some server side hardware issue or something.

My gut feeling is that traffic, sometimes, saturate what provider of infrastructure has allocated for network.
So a randomly portion of the traffic sometimes (randomly) get cut off and stumble in a sudden disconnection.

If my wild guess is right nothing can be done client side because the issue is the server farm, regardless on how the connection is established (directed or through Cloudfer).

My guess come from what I noticed few months ago, it appears that my device keeps reconnecting every time I hit back button on browser (probably due to how websockets is handled when page is restored from bfcache).

If my hypothesis about websocket is correct, then many users (that use Chrome based browser) are unintentionally reconnecting a lot their websocket, increasing traffic for no reason.

Disclaimer: as said many times, in my answer, mine is just a wild guess based on few hints I get on my device.
I am nowhere near to have the amount of informations needed to formulate an educated guess, so take what I said with grain of salt, it's basically just a little more than gut feeling.
Maybe some mod with a better knowledge of situation of Lichess infrastructure could add few details in that regard.
