Repetiton counting (wrong counting)

"(I cannot find any sign of a system decision based on 5 repetitions)"
No, there was no draw offering. (you would see it in the comment section of the game, right?)
I Had 1 min 20 sec on the clock.
My Opponent had 31,8 sec. Do you mean the draw happend after he thought for an additional 1,8 sec?
Of course I dont know his chess settings (I Have selected auto draw if <30 sec - he might have had the same setting)

@tpr Thanks for the official chess rules (I have never looked those things up).

How was this game drawn then?:
5 repetions? The scoresheet states: "Dreifache Stellungswiederholung • Remis"/threefold repetition - draw
or
30 secs auto accept?

Shouldn't Lichess state 5-times rep/draw???

And just to confirm that I understood the rules correctly: I mad the (1) a5 Move as black. After white played 31. Nf7+ , I am allowed to write down my (3) Kg8 move on the paper sheet and claim a draw?

@Chess-Explorer and @fredo599
The triple repetition only stops the game when someone claims it.
But in the FIDE rules that Lichess uses
When the score reaches 5 repetitions, the arbiter will intervene and automatically award a draw.

Is something the rule about 50 moves, arbiter only intervene in 75

Yes, it's look like a bug ...

https://github.com/lichess-org/lila/issues/21791

I can't see the repetition indicators at least that must be a bug.

Let me change my mind ...

@Chess-Explorer your game was indeed stopped by the system with both players having their 'Claim draw on threefold repetition automatically' NOT set to 'always'

As I said, I have not found the explanation in the code ... yet but I tested it

https://youtu.be/tpe4emm4OTM

Note the 'Threefold repetition' message' on move 5

When 3 positions have repeated, any player can stop the game (before the system does it as in previous video)

Thanks for the demonstration.

Does Lichess use the term 5-times rep/Draw? / 9.6.1 FIDE rules

I dont know if that is a common term or used in official chess tournaments, so it might be more advantageous if a chess arbiter could comment your video or the game itself.

As per the technical part, fiveFoldRepetition is enforced here: https://github.com/lichess-org/scalachess/blob/57d3483869abde8a7dbd867520fe78f8f7e87d79/core/src/main/scala/History.scala#L19

Look at @tpr explanation above:

  • 3 fold repetition draw has to be claimed (can be automatic in Lichess)
  • 5 fold repetition draw is automatic and enforced by the arbiter
