I know Lichess allows this on their Discord server through the advertisement channel. I think it could have a chance to work and thus get greater reach than just blogs and biographies, but the question is -- how to enforce it? How to make sure such a place does not get derailed as well? Do you think other advertisements besides just chess teams should be allowed?
It's a good idea; I just wonder if it can be implemented given how OTF has gone.
@Cute_cupcake If people spam you in dms, just block them. Furtherly, when you WANT to join a team, go search for it.
How are you going to search for teams when you don't know they exist. I closed 3 teams because no one knew it existed. The team search bar doesn't really work (I have searched my own teams before)

Join mine and I'll join urs
Lichess might block that because they blocked followers list to eliminate follow me and I'll follow you.

They have a discord?? (Never knew)
I think it would be good to implement certain settings and changes :
An "Interested/Not Interested" button for joining teams, and the user who activates it will make their choice visible on his/her profile :
"I don't want to join teams"
Or "I can join teams"
Or "I only want to join friends' teams"
I would recommend a page similar to the coaches page for players (titled or not) looking for teams. Team leaders could then request to send a notification to the player with the team name and a short message. The player would then receive a Lichess message with the offer, which they could accept or decline. For titled players, the option to only receive messages from important teams or by asking the team leader to give a list of tournaments in which the team participates.
The advantage for team leaders would be much easier team building, with an accent on random or precise searches for available players, and a greater chance of making friends and not building a team out of people that joined it "by pity" or without interested in playing tournament. And for the players, the end of spam, "join my team" messages, and offers without details or interest.
All you need, is to learn how to use a search engine:
site:lichess.org/team "chess960" OR "crazyhouse"
site:lichess.org/team "blitz" "active" after:2026-04-15
