Isn't it part of the human rights that anyone can speak anything they want? It is his desicion to make, even if I don't like it. It isn't something we get to decide for him but as a friendly remainder to not spam.

I was all set to get indignant over this question, but I actually realize that this could be a little confusing for kids who are new to the forums. So, to clarify: yes, he can say what he wants.

What is NOT a human right is posting what he wants on the forums. The forums are a public good, and there are enforcement mechanisms to prevent abuse of the forums.

To prove this, let's say that instead of spamming the forums, say a user said something really offensive-- for example, if he made a thread titled "Fuck the Luxembourgish" and said really hateful things about Luxembourg. That wouldn't be acceptable behavior, and his access to forum posting could be withdrawn (and rightfully so). At the same time, while the user's views may be horrible, he has the right to hold the terrible views. Lichess forums are not supposed to be a platform for that.

Similarly, lichess forums are not supposed to be a platform for spam. It is my right to point this out. It is not anyone's right to spam. In fact, spamming is against the TOS.

He didn't really violate the etique. This is not spam but a sense of humour for fish. So if the etique is not violated, he should have the right of free speech due to the first amendment.

Been a minute since someone cited the etiquette to me.

What we're discussing is most certainly spam-- it is communication directed at a single user mass sent to everyone. It's also a shitpost. That's a double spam sandwich.

A quick note about the etiquette: it is not all-encompassing. Back when it was written, I actually argued for a more comprehensive and thorough set of rules-- it makes it easier for people to know when rules are being broken when the rules aren't incredibly vague. I believe the idea is to give mods more leeway on when to take action, but I still think rules are just as much for the userbase as for the mods. Alas, my conceptual input was not taken nearly as well as my linguistic suggestions.

Also, my entire involvement here was initiated by another user arguing that it was okay to spam provided that someone thought the spam was funny. That's the type of attitude that was prevalent at the worst of the COVID shitpost era.

First amendment does not apply here for a number of reasons (see my last post for one of those reasons).

@kind_Panda

Again ... I didn't make them, I can't stop anyone from making threads yk, when they mention me, I just reply that's all ..

Yes, you may not be responsible for these specific threads. But you can choose to curb it a little bit. This is just a thought and it might not work, but -- "Hey, thanks for the @ mention [not me editing this after realizing that's a real account lol], but could we discuss this in the team or DMs?" and then ignoring any subsequent messages would probably work after the first couple of tries. Sure, it isn't your specific responsibility. But if you truly think that people complaining about the high volume of spam is damaging to your reputation, than this would be a perfect way to remove your name from it and show that you aren't the person at fault (which you aren't, but it's pretty easy to conflate it when you're still responding to everyone's spam).

This whole part you said to me then.. as I am the only child here spamming, I don't want to mention anyone , but yk there's something going on here with excessive amount of multiple accs made by a person or maximum 2 ppl in different times but in same days

I honestly feel like it's not really about these forums addressed to you but also an issue beyond that. I don't mean to press on you specifically (I'm sure you can find messages of me saying similar things to others in the past) but take it from a peer (in age at least) that I feel like you have also been a little bit spammy in sensitive topics in the past. I'm not saying that one has to be serious all the time (you should see me when I'm fully hyper), or that it's only you because it most definitely is not, but I don't think it's fair to be going into forums talking about serious issues and changing it into a talk about pandas. Moreover, I do think that it would help if you didn't respond when other people did that and you shut it down instead. Obviously, you can't control others, and I'm not expecting you to do so, and please, please, please don't take this as me trying to push you down or worse, condescending down to you! But I do think that if you shut down others more often instead of passively responding and thus "encouraging" it, it would help a lot with clearing your name.

P.S. I agree, the P shouldn't be on here, given their open admittance to ban-evasion. But nobody's been applying a double standard here because that specific poster is primarily known for evading their ban and not so much for spam (they have shown to be rather eloquent as far as actually being serious about things goes).

Yeah, that ain't how this works.

Forums are for group discussions. Every time you kids make a thread about "OMG kindpanda eats bamboo!" or spam a bunch vapid responses like "frfr" or "what?", it bumps to the very top. It makes the forums harder to navigate, it blows up interesting threads, and people stop wanting to use the forums because they know a bunch of 12 year olds are going to turn any conversation into a shitshow. This isn't me just guessing. I've seen this happen a number of times. Why do you think people are always talking about how the forums used to be better here?

The forums are NOT for a couple of people to annoy everyone else by hijacking it for personal conversations. There is literally a feature for personal messages. I don't want to see your personal conversations, and I doubt you want clousems to be involved in your personal conversations.

Yes, as @clousems is saying, please do not put random topics in the forum. This is not acceptable and should not be continued. People are getting annoyed of random topics. Yes, you sure can post topics about questions you want to ask, and sometimes maybe a fun game you want to share with us. But, this kind of forum is not meant to be anything-just to take up storage in the forum. So, as @clousems is saying PLEASE DO NOT spam the forum with unnecesary topics.
