It depends upon what would "unite" the world.
A lynch mob is "united" -- but united in pursuing something awful.
I'm glad the world did NOT unite behind various horrid movements over the course of history.
I actually prefer diversity. I rather like that England and France and Iceland and Poland and Russia and South Korea and Uruguay are all distinct and have their own traditions, characteristics and viewpoints.

But if it's a united world in the sense that there's no oppression and despotic leaders, then maybe. :)

Yes, but if the ruler was a dumb donkey, the ENTIRE WORLD WILL BURN! So, to be fair, disputes are managed with division.

"I actually prefer diversity."
- Then the United States should dissolve.
Texas and New York and California and Alaska and Minnesota and Carolina and Florida are all distinct and have their own traditions, characteristics and viewpoints.
- I would prefer more power to the United Nations, abolishing the veto rights, and more power to the International Criminal Court.

It would seem a world without war or conflict stands as a fantastical ideal, however, fundamentally people are bound to have differences.
Oppressing differences IS a nightmare when one thinks about it.
I'm not politically sound as some other users here, but I'm pretty very few people says that Jana Aranya is Ray's best film (shoutout to that one guy on reddit).
I'll change that if I happen to, but it's definitely not Pather Panchali.
So yeah. There's a difference.
I'm probably very wrong, but do correct me.

abolishing the veto rights
Giving "major powers" a veto right seems to be a smart move to explicitly prevent wars, even tough such wars could not yet have been thermonuclear when the UN veto rights were originally designed.

I wish we could uninvent nuclear weapons so that there are no superpowers... I think those scientists in WW2 really did humanity a disservice
