When did you start playing chess for the first time?

I started around 6 my dad introduced it to sister and my sister taught me the basic fundamentals.

@Amazing_Arham I hope you keep playing this great game. It is loads of fun, teaches patience and consequences (among many other things), and allows one to make some good friends in the best-case scenario. I wish you the best.

I started learning about chess when I was 7 years old. My dad and my mom's dad both tried to teach me how to improve my game, but I didn't learn all of the basic rules (not counting tournament rules) until I was 14 years old. I learned algebraic notation when I was 17, but did not play my first official game until I was in my early 30s...my rating in the USCF is pretty low. I am somewhere over 1000...or WAS. I need to check my rating next month. My highest rating in classical chess in the USCF was 1327. I remember losing to someone who was rated only 800-something. I considered quitting at that point. My rating eventually dropped down past 1100 and here I am now...

I started playing in the womb. Reaching the pieces was difficult, because my arms were still tiny. But where there's a will, there's a way!

I started as a wee kid and I regret only not finding out earlier about Go rather than chess

Whenever I get too big for my britches, friends tell me: go play some Go.

The experience is always humbling.
