Well just to keep a thoughtful discussion alive. I think going berserk is still a serious topic. So feel free to leave your opinion about it. I play tournaments every day an for me berserk pays off so i would like to know what NONBERSERKS say why they don't go berserk. When you go berserk you can go up to 5 points each win so if you have 3 wins in a row you can make huge steps in the field which you can't nonberserk. So what is the reason not to try berserk?
From my side i have mentioned a few times as a principle it's a question of honor not to accept a huge time advantage.
I hope you try more berserk and experience the berserk feeling. For me it's also indicating to go fully berserk on the board like Tal or other wild players who played attacking with sacrifices and stuff like that...

But the fact still remains that going beserk has nothing to do with honor, nor does it have anything to do with being "chicken".
As you stated yourself above, its a strategic decision to gain extra points.

When my opponent berserks, it is his decision. I don't force him to. If he is rated higher than me, I usually don't berserk back because I want to beat him. If I berserk back, the chance of me winning is slimmer.
This is why you should be careful when you berserk. It's a gamble. I berserk often in tournaments when I am fairly confident I will win, even if my opponent doesn't berserk back. And if he does, it is even easier for me. But I don't expect him to berserk back. I expect him to accept the challenge and try to beat me with an extra advantage.
And if he beats me, well done! I underestimated him. But if I win, I get extra points and I am happy. Either way, I never see him as a "chicken" because he didn't berserk back. He just wants to win, as does every single person who plays in a tournament. I respect every player's desire to win. It's natural.

There were a lot of chicken in the Marathon blitz....
But i couldn't care less berserk 100 % ! I don't want to lose my pride and be able to watch in the mirror and see an honorable man :)

a Honorable Man would play the bongcloud opening every game that is true Honor :)

Honour means moving only pawns and queen (and king, when checked, but only then). :D

Courage and stupidity have always gone hand in hand - as have cowardice and wisdom. This sums it up perfectly :D

There should be an OMEGA berserk button that leaves oneself with 0.1 sec w/o increment and grants 2 extra points.
Pro:
- We can finally beat any honorable GM
- Tournament winners can literally be decided in the last seconds, so it's more exciting
Con:

For me berserk is like the i invite you question. I know these values are getting more and more rare these days maybe especially in the west. If you say i let you go first and an honorable man would say no i let you go first. I invite you ...no i invite you :) or if you invite me i invite you too. I did compare this to the Harakiri tradition of the samurai. If you get a gift in Japan it's a question of honor to give a gift back :) So i gonna be the first who gives a gift and goes berserk!

@HORRORMAKER
Does that mean that a Greek Gift sacrifice must always be returned to preserve honor?
A sacrifice with hopes of profit is not a question of honor. You're giving up some of your time, hoping to earn more points from your victories. The Greek Gift is giving up a bishop with hopes of getting a strong attack.
