What a terrible tragedy. May the victims rest in peace and the survivors manage to make a speedy recovery.
But sorry OP, what do you mean by "politics"? Canadian politics? US politics?
Additionally, both your post and a few articles of the news coming out are not very well explained. Everything is vaguely worded or only hinted at. What's going on here?
On the internet it's a bit impossible to talk about things in detail without offending someone somehow. In any event, about this post you might not have noticed, but USA has an autocrat leading our plutocracy, funding TSA and immigration enforcement while neglecting social services and other federal services.
It's not "the nation" that is prioritizing politics.
And it's not some "autocrat" funding or failing to fund TSA, @Toadofsky. It's Congress that America needs to act sensibly right now.
Failing to fully fund TSA (and various other parts of Homeland Security) is due to some in politics. Not the whole nation. And not every politician. Not even close. And not America's current president.
I'd like to tell a lot of the congresspeople from one party in particular: FULLY FUND TSA and the COASTGAURD (and other parts of Homeland Security). Don't hold up funding with any hope for political advantage or ridiculous, unobtainable concessions.
Don't demand ridiculous non-starters as a precondition for funding. Just pay the workers and MOVE ON.
For those who don't know which party is primarily responsible for blocking the necessary funding -- please don't merely listen to some talk show personality to figure it out. No, don't even listen to me to figure out the facts, sincerely!
I'm not asking for anybody to assume I'm correct that it's primarily ONE party who has recently delayed necessary funding. After all, it's possible to ACTUALLY look into the facts, INDEPENDENTLY.
It's possible to determine who votes or doesn't vote, and for what. Who will or won't advance a bill. And, with such facts in mind, a person can make up his or her own mind. Not just nod along with somebody else's opinion, on screen or otherwise, no matter how many times it's been heard.
Reality is not unknowable. See who is trying to get funding passed and who, instead, is demanding other, silly, things first.
It's pretty much that simple. By the way, Trump is NOT in Congress. A bill has to be first passed by Congress before it can get to his desk for signing. It is NOT remotely Trump who is holding up the funding, in case somebody is confused.
Understand that the Republicans, with their narrow majorities, CAN'T just pass whatever they want. As a practical matter, it takes more than a simple majority to get some things passed, unfortunately, given existing rules. It often takes significant bipartisan support.
If your favorite news sources aren't making that clear, you might ask yourself why.
But many people, perhaps most, won't even bother. They'll just assume that they know the truth and will just continue to listen to their same old sources or influences and won't really look into the facts. As a consequence, a lot of baloney goes undetected, accidentally or otherwise.
Senator John Neely Kennedy (the brilliant Republican Senator from Louisiana) may be able to help the Congress get this done, despite those who are trying to use funding as a negotiating chip.
I wish him well and thank him for his courage and wit -- he's among the smartest folks in government, and it appears that he and his Republican colleagues continue to try hard to get things funded and stop such an unfair funding dry spell.
But it's hard to get people to change their minds -- it's painful to realize when we are mistaken.
Thank you, too, John Fetterman (the principled Democrat Senator from Pennsylvania). I was wrong about you -- you are turning out to be one of those I most respect in Congress. I guess that wasn't painful, actually. We all make mistakes, after all. I hope that my admission of earlier error can serve as a good example.
This accident is completely incomprehensible to me, since the tower clearly communicated with both the plane and the truck.
And when the tower says "Stop!", the truck has to stop! And if the tower gave this instruction too late, I wonder how the truck driver couldn't see the plane. In case of doubt, he should have relied on his own senses and let the aircraft pass.
Condolences to all affected by this.
Humans make mistakes.
How about a navigating system on airports.
An aircraft about to land or start
sets that runway
automatically to occupied.
Vehicles on the ground would see
no go zones immediately.

There are a few experts on YouTube explaining why expecting the truck to follow directions like that is unrealistic.

At this point between Trump encouraging and signing the "big beautiful bill" which slashes social services etc. and underfunds existing obligations in order to give corporations a 15% tax cut, and Trump's military flying a helicopter into an airplane during a training exercise last year, I am livid. The same felon who accused the previous administration of inaction with regard to funding border security is now inactive with regard to funding the FAA who protects travelers' security every day. If he can get away with blaming a female executive for budget failings, surely we can also blame a male executive for budget failings; but fine, technically Congress is at fault here.
@Toadofsky , Trump is not at fault for a past helicopter accident. Indeed, after the massive "infrastructure" spending during Biden's term, why is so much still so in need of updating and in need of improvement? I find it a bit baffling.
Right now -- do you know if TSA is being properly funded? Or the other parts of Homeland Security?
That matters. Discussions of the "big beautiful bill" or some unrelated helicopter accident in the past will just distract us from the situation in airports and elsewhere RIGHT NOW. It will distract us from what's pertinent and going on in Congress RIGHT NOW.
And I'm glad we can agree -- judging by your last sentence -- that Congress DOES have responsibility for getting things funded OR NOT.
And right now, we've had government workers going WITHOUT PAYCHECKS for weeks. For what? Seriously, for what?
Why not see who ACTUALLY is trying to get funding done in order to pay TSA and other parts of Homeland Security (which are particularly crucial right now), and who is holding out on that funding -- and for what reasons?
I don't see ANY justification for the funding hold up. But it goes on and on and on. And it's not helping airport workers or anybody else, as far as I can tell. But apparently some politicians think it's helpful and important. I strongly disagree and want to see important workers get paid for their work.
The current hold up presents simple, factual questions -- whether or not we like the answers. I want the government workers paid. And I believe the evidence will show that the Republicans in Congress are, with few or no exceptions, trying to get that done, with not enough help from the other side. And it's certainly not Trump that's holding up the funding -- he's not in Congress.
But, again, I don't ask for anybody to take my word for it -- the world IS knowable, independently, if we pay attention to the raw facts and don't just listen to familiar and comfortable opinion. No matter how much we'd prefer to do that.
Right now -- do you know if TSA is being properly funded? Or the other parts of Homeland Security?
Can we accept that I mis-remembered earlier?
Trump is not at fault for a past helicopter accident.
Oh, it was an accident that military exercises were conducted in civilian airspace? Perhaps it was also an accident that the military commits war crimes around the world too?
Trump did not cause the helicopter to crash. Do you think military helicopters were flying in that airspace for the first time ... and because of Trump?
Seriously?
And when we leap to assertions of "war crimes" we also seem to leap way off topic and indeed distract from it.
I'm concerned about -- and made by the crash to think about -- the unnecessary stress and potential loss of function at airports as many government workers keep NOT getting paid for their work, because of what seems like misguided notions (to say the least) by some in Congress.
Those workers haven't committed any "war crimes" have they? They're just showing up, trying to keep airports moving, and they deserve not to get dragged down by politics or any dislike for any particular president or other politician. Sometimes, I think we just have to concentrate on what needs to be done -- and get it done.
I hope everybody will put politics and wish lists aside and support getting the government workers PAID for the important work that they are showing up for and doing.
