Howdy Chess players!
Noticed that people here are straight to "their" point, not messing about with small talk...
Appalling number on here refusing rematch just shows how our society has changed. Me, me, me... 10 places later still me...
"I don't owe you anything" , "my house is on fire" as if you are in Los Angeles area, and so on, just shows how we care for nothing but ourselves and reset(of society) is overdue.
Unspoken, and often spoken rule of chess is to offer, or accept rematch for a few games and sure, if you are that good, next time you play the unlucky loser you will see at the beginning of the game that your stats are way better and cancel future matches.
So, what happened to gamesmanship is better question, perhaps?
Nowadays I just put the bloke to ignore list. I am not good enough for a rematch, no worries, making sure we won't play again.
My rating doesn't matter that much...
What bothers me here equally is a guy is playing and timer is ticking steady and his moves are steady as well. And it doesn't change even on obvious or forced moves... So, when you try to report, lichess want you to link up at least one game. As if they will see unusual pattern.

Accusing your opponents of being self-centered and then blocking them because they didn't do as you wanted is a very funny take.

In 99% of cases me, myself and I(so the 3 of us) accept rematch, and indulge in a chat that is sent my way during games. Little or a lot of banter.... When I was growing up, we'd mock each other while playing and I see nothing malicious in that.
I do play at work mostly, so if my boss walks in, I'll let the game run and come back to it, but other than that, I'll give a game to a novice or a grandmaster alike. When a better player smashes me few times, I thank them for the teaching and move on.

Me neither. But I also don't see as disrespect if people are not interested in engaging in any of that.

Yes, play as you want! I do not impose anything on anyone. There was a discussion here, I expressed my opinion, you have your own and, thank God. Obviously, we have different ideas about self-esteem. Who rejoices in victories over an opponent who has outplayed him, i.e. he has been outplayed to smithereens, and, suddenly, oh happiness! Yes, for God's sake. It gives me satisfaction when I manage to replay, and not scratch out happiness. Happy staying, I wish you good luck.

Let me clarify. Not to insist, just to clarify better how I think.
Personally, I always resign ( even when perhaps it wouldn't be the case ), because I don't find anything interesting in hoping for a last-minute blunder of my opponent to overturn a compromised game.
But if, with roles reversed, my opponent continues to play in desperate conditions, I don't see anything wrong with it.
I don't take it as an offense ( to what ? to my chess skills ?? Come on, I'm not an International Master... ) . If he wants to continue, if he likes it that way, let him play. Whatever his motivations, it's his business, what do I care ? I just try to checkmate quickly and it ends there.
I know I'm boring by repeating the same thing again, but... everyone experiences the game of chess in their own way. The only thing that matters is that you play honestly.
