It would be the most natural thing now that only blitzbullet has any chances for second place besides jannlee, that all other players just give up and never show up. Then I guess he gets 30/30 wins and beats jannlee on tiebreak with both having equal number of points otherwise.
Never would have happened if rounds happened in strict order. Now whoever showed up on time gets punished.
My point is that just like in chess, these candidates are worth playing just for 2nd and 1st place (ok in chess it is only the 1st place that counts, but same idea). So assuming that and what would be the most rational behavior for players that have no chances, then jannlee is fucked.
Good thing zh players are not that rational, and the whole thing still has that idealistic spark. I do realize it would be much harder to organize the whole thing with strict rounds with each player waiting all games of a round to finish etc. just saying..

I don't know if I agree that sportsmanship (i.e. playing all your matches even if you don't have a chance of qualifying for the championship) is "irrational," but yes, you certainly have a point. Other competitors could in theory do this and there isn't a good solution to stop it. The only thing I can really think of is disqualifying competitors from next year's candidates' tournament if they refuse to play the rest of their matches.

In a cold dark world, where nobody does anything for fun, wasting your time is surely an irrational behavior. I just make as little assumptions as possible about the world we live in :D.
But ok, you get my point.
Still rules were invented because generally, you just can't count on humans to always do the right thing.
Even if they do, they will not be as motivated as before and will surely not give the best they could

There is still money to play for in finishing 3rd or 4th, but I guess that's known now, too. In the future, Candidate matches will be better organized, but we didn't have much time this year and not everyone could follow a fixed schedule :/.

This is still an awesome event though. I think if blitzbullet draws or loses a match it would make sense to go into the championship match while the rest fight for 3Rd and 4th. Especially when TT finishes his last round of the candidates.

Awesome event indeed. Hats off to the organizers (and equally to the players) for pulling it off. Just wanted to give some feedback.
Some more ideas for the next ?year?:
- twitter or/and facebook (not that i have any of those but might even make a twitter account just to follow the event)
- crowdfunding for the prize pool - as soon as i figure out paypal and if i am not out of job by then for playing too much zh will definitely pitch in
- chess.com event coverage really compensated lack of understanding of zh with showmanship - we need some of that here too.

Maybe I am impatient for the final , but I think that Blitzbullet should speed things up a little bit. He still has three matches to play. There is no sign that he will play this week or the next...
I am just making a comment , no bad intentions!!!

"if i am not out of job by then for playing too much zh" HAHAHA!
@FatesWarning Yeah it's dragging out a little bit :(.
Sure, I'll be happy to make all your wishes (suggestions?!) come true :P. However, this WCC has much better coverage than chess.com's (almost every match has coverage by top zhers like Atrophied, crosky, and JannLee).

I think in general people can't follow a fixed schedule and because matches are online that's ok. People don't have to pay for hotels to stay at, and as a spectator it's been quite fun having such a long drawn-out event. I was missing the fact there were no matches last weekend.

@okei Thx for your support; I agree with what you said - not much can be done, but there's always room for improvement!
