Good blog!
Chess is more fun in a community. Fact!

It was an excellent blog. I still don't know if I want to join the team, but I believe I would if I were more inclined to play team games. QRM is a good chess player, and a kind soul. I wish her and her team the best--and who knows? I might join it someday if I am welcome...

@DoomedBishop I don’t know which team you refer to, but you are always welcome at Think!

Hey Mark! It's been a while.. thank you for your kind comments. I really don't mind if people join our team or not as long as they know the option exists and the benefits they might have from it.

Great blog! Hope the THINK community keeps growing!

When I read this post, one word came to my mind: "care"! Thanks for the post.
Indeed, chess is best with the community. For many years, I used to play on FICS (freechess.org chess server). The sense of community was strong there. The chess server was designed around chat channels, so it played a great part. Lichess is great! But chat and forums were a bit of an afterthought here.
Lichess teams are yet to be close-knit in my short experience here. Your post seems to point out that there are such close-knit teams. But interacting through lichess forums is only slightly better than emails. I haven't yet observed any worthwhile discussions over chat.
Maybe I'm biased here due to my experience with FICS channels. There, the channels used to be powerful. You could say that they're precursors to slack or discord these days. I wish lichess chat becomes as powerful.

I recently discovered lichess4545.com. It is mainly for those who like slower time controls. They run a slack server where most of the interactions happen. There are bots to automate a few aspects of tournament management. This is hands down the best community I found (so late!) on lichess. It runs different tournaments: individual, team, chess960, correspondence, corres960, and more. There are slack channels that organize book clubs, discussion on elite events, even a place to share your accomplishments and failures, etc. Slack is a great choice. I wish lichess has a similar channel system in place.
Of course, none of these would be possible without people who cared to build the community. lichess4545 mods are some of the excellent people I came across online (sense of humour is a bonus!)
