On the gleeful subversion of lichess ToS in the Off-Topic section (or: the clousems annual mod rant)

<Comment deleted by user>

I don't quite understand your "reply" to me, @clousems.

I agreed with you about "alt" use to avoid chat bans. And I didn't say anything about "play bans."

Where we disagree, I think, is that I don't personally worry much about kiddies making silly posts. Yet, although we appear to disagree about that, you didn't reply except obliquely, by saying this isn't about "politics."

Actually, the concern about "spam" does feel reminiscent of the sort of concern we saw from some about parking lot meetings and beach going. I found that Covid concern to be a bit puzzling and arguably over wrought, at the time.

And, although I didn't say so in my earlier post, now that you mentioned "politics," I will say it now -- the Left DID seem much more likely to meddle and try to restrict others, a pattern I've observed for years, unless it's abortion rights that are being discussed -- then it's the Right that may over-meddle sometimes. As for me, I thought then, and still think, that "Live and let live" isn't a bad motto.

I don't try to read every post. If there is an obviously silly thread -- I just skip it. Where's the great burden in that? I don't see one.

Likewise, during Covid, if somebody wanted to meet in a parking lot, or go to the beach, I didn't see it as either a crisis or my business. Nobody was forcing ME to go to the parking lot or to the beach, just as nobody forces me to read a silly post.

So I'm not likely to get upset by a silly post. It's the Off-Topic Forum, not the Off-Topic But Nevertheless Edifying And Profound Forum, I think.

Furthermore, I honestly don't even know what "spam" is -- other than the brand name of a popular pork (I think) product. Spam appears to be in the eye of the beholder. And it appears to be nothing I am likely to worry much about.

Apparently you feel differently. That's okay with me, too. Indeed, I'm rather flexible about what others do or how mods do their jobs.

Perhaps my blood pressure's just too low.

Oh for goodness sakes. @clousems is certainly NOT an idiot, as I suspect just about everybody would agree. And differences in opinion really don't call for cursing.

I agree with him in part, about the use of "alts" to avoid bans. And that doesn't make me an idiot, either. If I AM an idiot, it would be due to the occurrence of spring. In spring, especially, a man can be befuddled by the possibility of romance!

"worthy hippo" you say?

Hmmm. That sounds strangely familiar! :)

But I shall agree that it IS the hippo, itself, that's worthy, not Noflaps. Noflaps is just okay. I hope. Not "worthy," precisely, but not all bad.
