Question for OTB players

@an7cplayingchess said ^

Neinn... That school selection doesn't have chess clock, and doesn't have FIDE rating.

FUN FACT 3: I played chess for school selection, all the morning... I didn't study. But not getting tired...

If this is your first FIDE tournament, I feel like you'll get a pretty decent rating, looking at your lichess ratings ;p

What is your FIDE rating, or you don't have, or unrated?

I'm FIDE rated, but it's been a long time since I played a rated game, so my current rating probably doesn't represent my level anymore :p

Tell me the experience of playing OTB. What can we do before the game, during the game, and after the game? I haven't had a chance to play OTB before... I hope I can...

One day...

Today was day 1 in an OTB tournament that I'm playing in. This was the experience:

I arrived 1 hour early to find my way around the hotel and find my round 1 pairing. There were two main rooms: the playing room with all the boards, and the "hanging out" room with pairing sheets for each section. The playing room was a big ballroom with tables and chairs, with pieces of paper taped onto the tables marking each board number. I spent the time before round 1 preparing my opening, then checked the pairing sheet one more time to make sure, and found my seat in the playing room. My opponent was already there with his board, pieces, and clock set up. One of the TDs made a few announcements on a megaphone, then told us to shake hands and start.

During the game, we wrote our moves down on a scoresheet with a carbon copy attached. We had a lot more space than I expected, the temperature was nice, and a water station was against the wall, the bathroom was 25 feet down the hall; everything was nice.

After the game, I recorded my result on the pairing sheet and found out that I didn't need to turn in my scoresheet, only write down the result. I then got lunch, returned to the hotel, and just sat in the outside room bored. Make sure to bring something to do in between rounds.

Basically this was repeated until round 3 ended, I went home, and wrote this forum post about my experience.
