Why are people in lichess so quiet?

I'm talking all the time when playing on lichess. Thank God you can't hear it!

lichess users are all around the world, many don't read and write english.

Some Lichess users might be scarred by the ghosts of chat past. They've seen too many opponents unravel in a chaotic stream of ASCII art and emojis, so they play it safe with the mute button.

you are not in the good teams in this case. there is more activity, but better targeted, on many possible subjects. Regarding the discussion during random games, it is undoubtedly because of the game interface which lends itself less to discussion. but go watch the tournaments! it's happy, I bet you've never seen a marathon chat!

@worldconqueror2013

CSKA_Moscou is right. If you find the right team, there is loads of chat, craic, fun friendships and even community. You can even have a group of related teams that is like a whole ecosystem covering different time controls in std and different variants. And when those kinds of teams play in something like Liga or Rapid League they can sometimes take over the chat completely! This sort of team will have an active and varied team forum.

Finding a good team in Lichess can transform your whole online chess experience. You can make chess friends and acquaintances from all over the world. Of course for people who just want to play chess and don't want to talk or make friends or socialise, they should obviously avoid this sort of team!

I am not speaking into nothingness, I am speaking from my own experience. At a time when certain teams want to be competitive at all costs and miss out on the human and friendly side, there are a lot of legionnaires and paid players. as an ultrasociable, I wanted to be as far away from this system as possible. I came across the right place and made friends who are much more to me than a only Lichess friendly circle.

@worldconqueror2013 a lot of the lichess mods are just overly sensitive

Actually the mods in general are sound. I've been out of line a few times and they've unbanned my chat.

Wait, so you're only banned when you're not out of line?

After the apologising to the player etc they unbanned my chat. 99.9% I'm nice. I kicked off on 3 / 100,000 players.

Now this is the best topic ever. I know why they are so quiet.
