Beliefs cause actions a lot of the time, that‘s why they’re so important and powerful.

How do I know that this world isn't all a dream?
For if a swallow can carry coconuts to Mersey, then it isn't a dream.
Is it possible to do absolutely nothing?
No, because if I am, I think and if I think, it is because I must think about the next question!
What if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
If a tree falls but makes no sound, it means the tree isn't made of wood, regardless of the distance it falls. This implies the tree is made of another material than wood, let's scientifically suppose, feathers. However, if it was made of feathers, the tree would fly rather than fall. So, this hereby suggests that the air is heavier than the tree, and that it is the air itself that is preventing us from hearing the tree fall.

„No, because if I am, I think and if I think, it is because I must think about the next question!“ If you‘re a conscious being, yes if you‘re not, no. You can be without being conscious and impact, therefore do without being conscious. Doing nothing is only possible when being something unconscious and existing in an existence where there is nothing you could possibly impact which I doubt is possible so even though your way of thinking is not fully correct, your result might be correct.

- Is it worse to lose 10–1 or 5–0?
10-1.
- Is it good to have a high pain tolerance?
Yes, but not extremely high
- 'Is it more likely that a bad person will stop being bad if they know or do not know that they are bad?'
It depends on the person. Sometimes a bad person even after realising continues to do bad things. While some others just think that they are good while doing bad. IMHO, the odds of them stopping being bad is higher if they do know that they are bad.
EDIT: Sorry for the ping

"Beliefs cause actions a lot of the time"
- No, more often not.
'conscience doth make cowards of us all' - Shakespeare in Hamlet
If all that ever thought of bad things were jailed, then there would be more jails than houses.

What if a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
Yes...other things, like forest animals will hear it, no humans are required .That's the non- philosophical answer.
There is more this question than you may know. Hears the scoop, as discovered by Peter Griffin ! -:]

@tpr would you act if you didn’t believe you existed? We cannot act without believing in anything and what we believe necessarily affects if and how we act. Every single part of your belief is necessary to act and every single action is based of something you believe.
We couldn’t be conscious beings without believing.
Also, that quote can be interpreted to not act in the sense of the belief of morals since that is what makes us question our beliefs and their correctness therefore limiting us all in our actions. I don‘t know how that quote was supposed to benefit you.

"would you act if you didn’t believe you existed?"
- Yes. Animals act with limited belief in existence.
"We cannot act without believing"
- We can. Some impulsive acts or acts in state of limited conscience like drunken.
"We couldn’t be conscious beings without believing."
- Yes, we can. Some animals are conscious with limited belief if any. Some humans with limited cognitive ability too.
"to not act in the sense of the belief of morals"
- Bad thoughts leads to no action as conscience overrides the thought of doing bad.

@tpr so first of all, I‘m sorry for generalising it like that, that wasn’t my intention in the first place.
I‘d like to take back my statement about conscious beings necessarily having to believe.
Still, disbelief or scepticism (which are some kind of belief if you‘re a bit crazy) can harm thinking and acting, that shouldn’t be new, not even to you.
Still, you‘ve mentioned that in a (from human perspective) limited state of consciousness (animals, drunken people, limited cognitive ability) this is possible which is why my claim from earlier is incorrect.
However, this doesn’t disprove and more of proves my first point which I‘ll quote: „Beliefs cause actions a lot of the time, that‘s why they’re so important and powerful“
The conscious beings you’ve mentioned are also limited in their actions and yes that does have a lot to do with their ability to believe, therefore proving my point even further.
I don‘t understand what your problem with my statement is.
„Bad thoughts leads to no action as conscience overrides the thought of doing bad.“
First of all, if conscience overrides the thought of doing bad, why do people still do „bad“ if you think something like that exists in a fixed way (spoiler: it does not).
Also: Yes, „bad“ thoughts do not necessarily lead to „bad“ actions due to conscience BUT most „bad“ things happen because of bad thoughts.
This has gotten way longer than I wanted it to and I‘m sorry for that.
