How do i beat my depression?

@Being2B said ^

Beat? Are you playing chess against it?

My tip would be to scrap the word depression.
It doesn't do anything.

There is a far, far thing named @depression and was not active for 13 years. How can you challenge him? AND ALSO THIS GUY BE LIKE
"if you have depression just be happy"
"if you have insomnia just sleep"
"if you are losing just win"

The best thing I can recommend you is to go to a psychologist (no it’s not for autistic or smth it’s a help that lots of ppl are telling it’s bad) and for now go to lichess being with people here to breathe from your problems. I’m sending you a correspondence challenge, take your time and have fun

Depression is one of the most dreadful and abhorrent conditions to exist. Often no encouragement, no warmth, no love by other people helps to overcome it, because the roots behind this illness are so much more complex than just "feeling bad". Only professional support has a chance at being useful.

First of all, OP, I think you need some better friends -- and I know that's way easier said than done, but please distance yourself and don't let them get to you. As for your parents, as someone who has had a similar situation before -- your best bet is distance as well. Obviously, they're family, and that's not really possible. But here are a couple things you can try:

  1. If you have a local library, try studying there. This works especially well if you have a university nearby that you can reach easily via public transportation since a lot of public universities have public libraries as well that close at midnight or later. I know your question is how to beat depression and not studying but I find that the absence of pressure from outside helps a lot towards improving your overall mood. If you have more money, you can try cafes near your school as well.
  2. Are you able to get an extracurricular that allows you to wake up early and sleep late? That way you can preserve some "me time", even if it's for something like running or gym. I know it sounds weird, but being depressed outside and being depressed inside tend to be very different, and having an extra hour of peace is sometimes worth its weight in gold.
  3. Mentally shut them down. You probably won't fare well trying to explain your situation, but do so in your head while paying lip service outside. Don't let other people's perceptions of you define who you are yourself.

You have a right to help, but I know that can be incredibly hard to find, particularly since many therapists (even if you managed to get one without parental permission) are required to report self-harm/suicidal ideation. If you fear risking a mental hospital stay, you can try online websites. I know I was recommended by a friend to try ditchthelabel.org; I cannot verify how effective it is since I haven't really done anything there yet but to my knowledge it involves licensed therapists assisting with you through private text chats (through the website, which isn't blocked on school computers [I checked], doesn't require cell reception, and doesn't require your voice so hopefully that helps with your privacy). Additional thing you can do for privacy => ProtonVPN (free, should obscure your messages if you ever find supportive friends to rant to).

I know I'm not online as often nowadays but I would be happy to be your friend if you ever need someone to talk to. I'm so sorry you have to go through this!
