Candidates Format

If matches are getting played, let's just roll with it! The expectation might be one game a week but due to various commitments, some players will be quicker while others will be slower. As long as they all get completed it's fine.

Can we please have clarity on the agreed number of games per match?

My opinion (also shared with others) was that simply stopping at 10 games is easy and balanced. Each player gets the same opportunity to play 70 games and viewers can expect to watch 10 games per match regardless. It's no longer knock out so a 5-5 tie is an acceptable result. Please confirm @FischyVishy so we're all clear before any matches begin.

Here's a suggested order of play we could follow by default. If players are required to play matches earlier or later than the default schedule, please let FischyVishy, other players and the community know via this forum.

Player 1 = JannLee
Player 2 = allyouneedisluft
Player 3 = Twelveteen
Player 4 = mastertan
Player 5 = chickencrossroad
Player 6 = xuanet
Player 7 = eekarf
Player 8 = blitzbullet

Round 1 (w/c 13Mar): 1v8, 2v7, 3v6, 4v5
Round 2 (w/c 20Mar): 1v7, 2v8, 3v5, 4v6
Round 3 (w/c 27Mar): 1v6, 2v5, 3v8, 4v7
Round 4 (w/c 03Apr): 1v5, 2v6, 3v7, 4v8
Round 5 (w/c 10Apr): 1v4, 2v3, 5v8, 6v7
Round 6 (w/c 17Apr): 1v3, 2v4, 5v7, 6v8
Round 7 (w/c 24Apr): 1v2, 3v4, 5v6, 7v8

The schedule above begins next week. That probably only allows this weekend for negotiations. If matches are set for later in the week, we can probably catch it up. We've already had a couple weeks off, so it would be good to get this event back on the road.

Players and @FischyVishy, please confirm if you agree with this default schedule (which still has allowance for advanced or delayed matches where required).

@JannLee Yes, sorry for not mentioning this. It is REQUIRED that there be 10 games in each match.

So:

  • 10 games total (required to be played)
  • 28 unique matches total
  • No tiebreaks for the matches (5-5 is an acceptable result)
  • 2 candidates will qualify for the WCC (chosen by highest # of match wins)
  • Tiebreaks if # of match wins = will be total points scored in all matches
  • As long as the matches are completed, I don't mind, but of course there must be some sensibility to this: players should have at least a 1-day break between their matches.

@JannLee Of course I am in complete agreement with you - that's an excellent schedule! I'd love to have this tournament back on track by next week. I've been a bit busy these few weeks, but come tomorrow, I will have some time to fix some things I've delayed fixing.
