Thanks for your openness @FischyVishy,
Based on most players responding that a total of 2 months duration would be reasonable, I'd like to suggest the following to the group.
There are 4 matches per round and 7 rounds to be played, making 28 matches in total. If we allowed 8 weeks in total, this would allow the first week to be set aside for predictions and match time negotiations. The second week would be available for the 1st round of play and also the 2nd round of predictions and negotiations. The third week would be available for the 2nd round of play and also the 3rd round of predictions and negotiations, etc. It would look something like below:
Week 1 = no matches + 1st round prediction and planning
Week 2 = 1st round play and 2nd round prediction and planning
Week 3 = 2nd round play and 3rd round prediction and planning
Week 4 = 3rd round play and 4th round prediction and planning
Week 5 = 4th round play and 5th round prediction and planning
Week 6 = 5th round play and 6th round prediction and planning
Week 7 = 6th round play and 7th round prediction and planning
Week 8 = 7th round play
The reason why we can have rolling weeks without gap weeks is because the prior round no longer influences the available players in the next round.
FischyVishy, in my opinion every match is going to be a "big" match among this talented group of players. If you'd like to influence the order of matches, you could simply prescribe the 4 matches to be played in each of the rounds according to the schedule above. After that, the players can negotiate and agree the times themselves and you won't have the burden of organising the full schedule.
If we have players that have holiday/study periods or cannot play on certain weeks, this general plan of 1 game per week over 8 weeks also allows more flexibility for them to get ahead of schedule slightly or otherwise catch up on any missed rounds so the tournament progresses smoothly.
I agree that we need more feedback from players: @allyouneedisluft @blitzbullet @mastertan @chickencrossroad @TwelveTeen @xuanet @eekarf
Thoughts from everyone?
