I don't understand the value of the feature, and it should be removed. Seems quite chess.com - esque as a bell/whistle. We don't want all the features!

Yeah. Part of the problem is that these seem to be so ... glow in the dark. Or maybe bright enough to "glow in the day". Very annoying. It's like they didn't think much before they did this.
Ideally I'd like to see Lichess.org state that "We're adding an off switch". That would remove much in the way of criticism in my mind. If I haven't mentioned this I was a programmer/analyst. Seeing the result of bad coding has wound up being very annoying to me. Bad decisions affecting coding also.
It is the most ridiculously unnecessary Lichess feature ever. The fact that some Lichess dev is sitting somewhere thinking they have created a genius feature is probably more annoying than the feature itself and the arrogance that they didn't think we'd need an off switch for it. This is so poor.

Even worse, it also appears in mating puzzles!
What can I say that hasn't already been said?
-Stark, idiotic and poorly implemented visual change to final position.
-No option to disable, allowed upon release.
-Multiple populated threads in the feedback section of the forums.
-Vehement aversions to the feature from those opposed.
-Mild apathy from those that it pleases.
-Zero response from anyone who works on/at lichess?

I think it's an awesome feature especially when playing 1+0 arenas. But i agree it coùld be optional.
