Is it normal to be shouted at by parents after losing at chess?

Depends on how competitive your parents are. But it's just a game, not your life so I don't think anyone should worry too much about losing. Losing is part of the game after all ;p

'Parenting: whatever you do, it is always wrong' - Rousseau
Negative reinforcement may produce results: focus on lost games.
Positive reinforcement often leads to nothing: you lost, but you stood well.

'It is only a game.'
'You win some you lose some.'
All true and comforting, but does not lead to results.

'When you sit down to play a game you should think only about the position, but not about the opponent. ' - Capablanca
and certainly not think about losing, or about what your parents might say, then it becomes a self fulfilling prophesy as in Greek drama.

'You may learn much more from a game you lose than from a game you win.
You will have to lose hundreds of games before becoming a good player.' - Capablanca
Losing is OK, as long as you learn from it.
After losing a game Fischer used to stay up all night analyzing.

Sometimes parents try to compensate for their own inadequacies through their children and sometimes they just want the best for their child.
If it doesn't make your child happy
Perhaps their priorities are skewed
And they're seeking validation through you.
My son's a master at chess
So we're obviously intelligent
It's not about you
It's about them...
Ofc I'm only speaking from observation
They're good people probably
With your best interests in mind

Myself, I enjoy chess
But I don't define myself through it
Just something I do for fun
And intellectual stimulation
It's just a game to me

It's tough to be a kid
Adults pushing you
In a direction
You don't want to go
For your own good...
So they say...

Breathe deep and endure the moment
Childhood will soon be over
It happens sooner than you'd think
And you'll be free to be yourself

Guys I love them and I know they never want my bad. They think that focusing on my mistakes will help me next game, but they include the advice with a mock, often misleading us. Reading comments like 'childhood will be over soon' kind of makes me anxious and guilty.....

The reason why I spoke only today is because this has happened countless times.

I only shared my part of the story, I don't know what they go through every day. I don't know if they are able to save enough for themselves. I could be wrong, too.

I would love if someone told me how to solve my pattern mistakes, not scream that I have that problem. I have a coach, he is a great player, and he is the only one who tells me how to correct my mistakes. I was crying yesterday because they take wins for granted. In this tournament I saw how poor I am at making correct exchanges. Now I go home, train 8 hours, focus on the exchanging theme, for weeks, and next tournament? It will improve. Nobody tells me this. Now I am ashamed, 3 losses ina row. Destroyed the whole tournament. Although my rating went up, I am sad because how badly I did in the 2nd and 3rd loss

You should talk to your parents.
You can play chess, you have a coach.
This means your parents believe in you.
Of course they are disappointed if things do not go as they wish.

I dont know which country you are in, or what resources are available to you, but assuming that everything you wrote in this tread is true, then I would highly suggest some form of family counceling... In many countries, if you approched you school theripist/nurse/ or a dedicated teacher and described this issue, should could set you up with a family therapist who would bring in you and your parents and work with you as a group to stear towards a healthier way of communicating with each other. What you are currently describing is not healty and not normal, and if you are correct that they are trying to help you, then they should be more than willing to participate in such therepy to learn how to be able to better help you.

it's great that you are considerate and, ya know, realized that this is only your part of the story.. at the end of the day at least you didn't fall down this spiral of hating your parents but still having to live with them -> hating life as a whole, etc. (I haven't either and I hope nobody has to go through this cuz at the end of the day they're ur parents come on why do you exist, that would suck for sure)
my parents don't know chess, if they did I'm pretty sure in hindsight they would have just given a slightly harsher form of constructive criticism for my blunders, yk tough love and all that
it's not like I'm defending your parents' behavior either though.. you can do this! good luck for the remaining rounds of your tourney :)
