Demonstrating well that a thing can exist even if you have not seen it . Even in the discussion you linked some were saying it's the worst they have seen even if others who have been here for a longer period of time were thinking it is not the worst .

I've yet to see a mod confessing to not doing his or her job.

We feel strife and conflict in some forums, good to talk about it and in some cases make reports.
Part of the equation for me, its a free website and Thibault has done a great thing making it. Some problems will persist.
I concur that with some individuals, bad behavior is refined away with years.

People would be better off watching psychological shows and films with smart characters than browse Lichess forums: The Mentalist, Dexter, Death Note, Kaiji, Liar Game, Tomodachi Game, Code Geass, Bones, Exam, Cube...
So true, better to diversify our free time than put it all in one basket. Enjoy my novels and occasional citizen science projects.

It says a lot about moderators when telling someone, 'stfu' gets to stay up for over two days. (In case it is because the moderators do not know ---which almost sounds possible--- 'stfu' translates to, 'Shut the fuck up.')
Shitposts are bad enough, but verbal abuse is setting an even worse precedent.
If the moderators will not enforce their rules, then they are essentially saying, 'Everything is allowed and anything could happen at any time.' Should Lichessians fear that their account might be deleted tomorrow?

"What if I gave a starving child moldy bread for free? A homeless person free clothes that are too broken to be considered wearable?"
Maybe not the best analogy: a starving child requires sustenance to survive, and a homeless person would need clothes to keep out the cold. Does a chess player require an online site to live, or even play chess?

Even worse was, three weeks ago, I told someone who was mocking people's usernames and slandering non-cisgender people, to do something along the lines of "STFU" (but less crude). My post was deleted for "disrespecting other players", and I was apparently temporarily chatbanned. That user’s posts can be seen even now. Selective blindness, I guess. The cherry on the top was that my post was supposedly deleted due to some algorithm error.

Seems like a good cause. I apologize to @decaffeinated for making a personal attack when discussing the operation metro surge in Minneapolis earlier this year.

Thank you, I appreciate that. And I hope that I conducted myself honorably and apologize if you ever felt insulted.
I also believe in the sincerity of your apology - remembering something so far back and still regretting it is a very powerful show of contrition.
